Sioux Falls, SD-
“The only place success comes before work is in the dictionary.“ That Vince Lombardi quote led Brittany Petersen from jobs in retail management to the corner office as Bluestone Federal Credit Union’s new Vice President.
Petersen began her 12-year career in the Credit Union industry with Bluestone as a teller in 2012. Her desire to learn and willingness to work hard saw her grow into a role as a Lender, then Branch Manager, then Compliance and Risk Manager in 2020. She will officially move into the Vice President role on Jan 1, 2025, alongside Alayna Johnson, Bluestone’s new President.
After working in retail for a number of years, Petersen was drawn to the Credit Union industry for its motto, “people helping people.” To her, the industry stood for financial inclusion and education for all and she likes the local community involvement.
Throughout her roles with Bluestone, Petersen has focused on training coworkers on fraud and scam awareness. This emphasis on helping members identify scams before they fall victim is a big part of what has kept her in the Credit Union industry. “Catching bad actors before they victimize our members brings me the most pride in my job,” Petersen relates.
Petersen is excited about moving in to the new role alongside Johnson, noting that she “admires her work ethic;” an opinion reflective of Petersen’s favorite quote. She believes that the two of them will be a great team and that she embraces the vision Johnson has put forth for Bluestone in the years to come.
Originally from Akron, IA and then Sioux City, Petersen and her now husband, John, a Sioux City native, moved to Sioux Falls in 2006. In 2009, Brittany and John got married in Sioux Falls and recently celebrated their 15-year anniversary. She stays busy during the school year with her son’s football and basketball schedule, and all other times keeping up with her daughter, a busy toddler. Petersen and family enjoy being outdoors and camping, where she says she can unplug and disconnect.
